A midweek round - 9:41am tee off time - we were lucky because any earlier and we would have had a fog delay. Sunny, clear winters day about 10 Celsius for tee off warming up to short sleeve polo weather during the round.

No carts allowed due to wet conditions recently, we walked the course. The day was perfect for golf, no wind, sunshine.

The course was not very busy on this day.

⭐ Overall Rating

The layout of the 27 holes at this facility is wonderful. Great design, enjoyable mix of holes and a challenging 18 no matter which of the 3 combinations you play.

Sadly, the conditioning of the surrounds are not fantastic and, on this day, some of the fairways and surrounds of elevated greens were a little below the standard you would wish for. Despite this, it is still an enjoyable place to play golf and I do recommend it.

I really like the 9 holes comprising 10 through 18. In particular 13 through 16 which is the start of the Valley course. Add to that, I love holes 19 through 27 which we played today and overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the course.

⭐⭐⭐☆ (7.5/10)

📊 RATINGS SUMMARY

Category Rating Notes (optional but encouraged)
Overall Condition ⭐⭐⭐☆ (7/10) In general, it was good for winter golf in a district that gets quite a bit of rain during winter. The first 4 fairways were a little too bare to be honest, but it improved a lot after that.
Difficulty ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐(8.5/10)

Great layout, contours, elevation changes, water hazards and some tricky at times greens make direction and shot selection crucial. Although a lot of bunkers have been removed, the course is still tricky.

Tee Condition ⭐⭐⭐☆(7.5/10) Tee boxes were ok, nothing spectacular but not bare or muddy.
Fairway Condition ⭐⭐⭐☆ (7/10) A few disappointing fairways, in particular hole 13, the par 5. Just lacking a good coverage of grass. Some of the embankments leading up to greens were very wet and a bit muddy but overall, for winter conditions, not bad.
Green Condition ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (8/10) Greens were soft to land on, but putts ran true and well. The grass was feeling and looking good and well maintained. But people, please, repair your pitch marks.
Bunker Condition ⭐⭐⭐☆ (7.5/10) Generally good, the works they have done in the bunkers is fantastic, still a little disappointing on some of the holes 19-27 but this was flagged on the noticeboard. Mostly well raked and very playable.
Clubhouse/ Bar & Food ⭐⭐⭐☆ (7.5/10) An attractive clubhouse but a little soul-less. We had some snacks and beers, one of our group had a meal that he enjoyed and the staff were vry friendly.
Pro Shop Experience ⭐⭐⭐☆ (7/10) Pro-Shop now moved into the bar/restaurant area. Great staff, small range of stock if you are looking to shop for gear.
Value for Money ⭐⭐⭐☆ (7.5/10) A championship layout, fantastic design and not far from Melbourne, so I would say it is reasonably priced for what is on offer - look out for the specials they have for cart and round if you don't like to walk..

Would you play here again?

✅ Yes /
I return to this course on a semi-regular basis and enjoy it.

📝 THE REVIEW

First Impressions & Standout Features

The arrival is lovely, a long driveway winding up to a large impressive looking clubhouse. The views walking through the entrance over the 18th, 10th and 1st are stunning, especially early when the fog is still nestled in the valley just beyond the course.

The 27 holes are a standout for me. It gives you variety and options to choose from which is great.

Big practice facilities on offer for all aspects of your game.

Best Holes or Memorable Moments

I love the 14th, 15th and 24th. All par 4's, all different and all very attractive holes for me. All 3 of these feature water hazards that can come into play.

Memorable moments for me were the drive on 14 using my 3 wood, the recovery 4 iron over the water on 15 and the long 5 wood onto the green at hole 26. But, the highlight was the 2nd shot PW into 24 that landed 2 meters from the pin, on a slight slope and rolled to about 20 inches from the hole.

💬 General comments or suggestions

I know this club is trying to continuously improve the facility and I hope they are able to keep up the good work. Suggestions would be better toilet facilities for female golfers on course and also a few improvements to drainage in certain places around the facility. Also, please fix or maintain the ball washers on course.

I do understand these are costly on-going issues, but such a wonderful layout is worthy of again reaching the great heights it deserves.
